KVC TECH APPS

KVC Tech Apps newly updated web site

https://kvctechapps.com

Capabilities at KVC Tech Apps have been expanded,  However, Data Automation tasks are still a very important part of our business model.   Feel free to leave a message for any request of work to be done.  If the request is of a sensitive nature please state that in the beginning of the message you write.

As compentencies are developed they will be described on various sections of this site.  Check out the “Developer Statement Page” for information on recent projects

    • SQ,
Statistics are very important part of any engineering project. Collection of points are integral to proper line maintenance records, safety and many other processing line attributes.
Collected stats are the foundation for the quote:
“If you cant measure it, you cant manage it”
Numbers even if approximations are better than nothing and give some semblance of order to the project.

    • Well, there are many degree programs and you can figure on a million options with just as many specialties. Never be afraid to specialize but be prepared to update specialties before its too late. Belonging to a professional engineering association will help keep on top of changing environments. My advice is to be proactive and consider skill updates before they take affect not after.
      (my two cents)

    • Site engineering is the mode most engineers work in. Very few factories are built near engineers homes, so travel is a big part of the game. Many engineers work on site away from home for many months at a time. You really learn and work with interesting projects while you are away, I myself, get used to the travel and find some projects so interesting they become a part of my work life. Also note that no matter how complex a plant upgrade is, the project has to complete and come to an end. Sometimes you can hang on for a maintenance time period, but you may find this precludes you from new assignments if you are not available. So best to be agile in outlook and projects.

    • n sql is really cool. I may have referred to it as “insql” what we are talking about is non stop sql components of WonderWare. It is a native piece of windows software that is reliable and runs well.

Typically a part of manufacturing data collection that monitor temperature, pressure and many others. Many times the nsql part will continuously load information into one or more sql server tables providing information about product produced in line assemblies. This is how you know to keep or discard the batch particularly if some measured parameter is out of spec.

This whole topic is quite involved

    • K,
Meter certification that I am familiar with involves commercial meters and the process is quite involved. They come in a variety of sizes from 2, 4, 8 and 12 inch mains. Large meters connected to a 12 inch pipe are for factory power plants and other large scale operations. Some commercial gas users run as much as 1 million dollars of gas a day, so you can see the criticality of having your meters run accurately. In constant use, many times a meter has to be rebuilt in as much as three years. after rebuilding making sure the meter flow rate is accurate requires recalibration and a certificate stating the accuracy of the calibration is provided to the customer. There are at least ten Gas Meter Certification labs around the world and they provide this information.

The gas meter owner, their customers and the gas supplier all care about the accuracy of the meters operation. If it reports too much gas used than what flows, the factory owner is losing money. If the meter reports a “short flow”, the gas supplier is losing money plus the plant owner is not able to properly gauge his gas use throwing off some of his product/service important parameters.

As to what is involved, in a lab environment, a customers gas meter is connected to a gas flow pipe. This can be an office right off a gas pipeline for the pressure requirements. gas viscosity flow rate, and volume are measured to get the flow rate. Compare this to a master meter of a similar meter type (manufacture, model, type). The measured parameters from the customers meter are compared to what they should be and this certifies the meters operation. The National Institute of Weights and Standards (NIST) provides programs that can predict flow rates of many different fluids like Freon, benzene, oil but more importantly multicomponent gases like natural gas. (multi means it is made up a several different gases, which all must normalize out to exactly 100%. Other wise error calculations wont accurately predict the error rate for the flow calculations.

In short, meter testing and measurement are very important!

  1. there are at least five types of meters
    frequency
    mechanical
    Turbine
    Ma4-20 current loop
    volumetric/ (cryoliis style)

the first four are gas volume, where as the fifth one is measuring the mass of the gas fluid being measured. The type used is based on the gas application with volume being the most common by far.
